Since I last went on a "blogathon" here on the website I've celebrated the birthday of my son Jake, who turned 4! It's easy to remember his birthday for obvious reasons, but easier too because he's the same age as this radio station!
In the Memphis world it's been a good spring so far, without the usual Memphis in May flooding and humidity. The Grizzlies were unfortunately eliminated from the playoffs, but I had this view during the playoffs. Pretty cool to be part of this kind of event in our city.
My boss here at the radio ranch, Dan Barron, was nice enough to invite me to dinner prior to game 2 at home against the Clippers. I might have earned brownie points because I snagged Anthony Grant to take pictures with us before the game! Anthony is the Head Basketball Coach at Alabama, where Dan went to college. Coach Grant was watching a couple of his former players. Here's my courtside photo. I promise I didn't interrupt his dinner or anything to get this picture taken.
Of course those of us working in radio are not only having fun, but working hard behind the scenes. You're either working hard in the working world, or you're not working is my motto. In my case, as is the case with many radio folks, it's with multiple stations and hats. So it's always busy busy busy. Luckily with twitter and Facebook, and because of my interaction with people and hosts on 94.1 FM and 92.9 FM here in Memphis, I get to keep up to speed on most happenings. But right now it's especially busy for Memphis in May, lots of exciting promotions/giveaways LIKE FREE GAS & CONCERT TIX ON 94.1, and our Cinco De Mayo party! I was able to catch up with one of my favorite local bands at our party earlier this month at On the Border. You can probably tell which guy in this pic is NOT a member of the 80's hair group Twin Soul.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to spending time with my wife, baseball, brats, taking our son Jake swimming at our friend Randy and Tonya Barker's, visiting my folks in Illinois on the "Farm", a Class Reunion...oh, and much listening to Classic Hits 94.1 KQK! Please tell your friends to listen. This weekend I'm putting together a "Summer Songs" Weekend. Song #1 at 3pm on Friday will be "Summer Nights". Look out John Travolta.
The City of Memphis has Grizzlies fever for the second year in a row! Actually, it's the most exciting of times (outside of the birth of my child and meeting my lovely wife here in Memphis) for me because it makes the city feel good and I get to work with the Grizzlies affiliate station, 92.9 FM ESPN. People love going to these games, watching a winner on TV, and actually seeing something very positive for the city. It's good business for Memphis.
On top of that and all the busy stuff we have going on here at Classic Hits 94.1 KQK (planning our "Made in Memphis" Weekend, Song of the Day for a bunch of FREE concert tickets, and behind the scenes meeting folks in the local community) it's Memphis in May!
Last weekend we had a "pirate" party for my son Jake. It's hard to believe he's already 4! Arlington in April was also last weekend, so my folks from Illinois enjoyed those festivities with us too! Good times.
The highlight of last night's game was meeting Anthony Grant, head basketball coach of the University of Alabama! That....and a Grizzlies win!
